Left ventricular dysfunction in symptomatic mitral valve prolapse.

Idiopathic MVP is characterized by a late systolic click or murmur from myxomatous mitral valvular dysfunction. It may be complicated by atypical chest pain, ventricular arrhythmias, and ECG changes that can mimic the symptoms of coronary artery disease. We prospectively performed radionuclide cineangiograms before and after stress tests in MVP patients with chest pain compared with asymptomati...

E VALUATION OF ADENYLATE CYCLASE ACTIVITY IN MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE

The term mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is used for a particular subset of patients with hyperadrenergic dysautonomia. It occurs when part of a leaflet or both leaflets of the mitral valve extend above the plane of the atrioventricular junction during ventricular systole. The adenylate cyclase activity in MVP dys-autonomia was studied by extraction of enzyme from the erythrocytes from 62 norma...

MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE The relationship of mitral annular shape to the diagnosis of mitral valve prolapse

The geometric or anatomic diagnosis of mitral valve prolapse, as opposed to the pathologic diagnosis of myxomatous valve disease, is based on the relationship of the mitral leaflets to the surrounding anulus. Current echocardiographic criteria for this diagnosis include leaflet displacement above the annular hinge points in any two-dimensional view; implicit in this equivalent use of intersecti...
